Computer Center

BACKGROUND

The Centre had its modest beginning in 1976 in the premises of the Electrical Engineering Department with a TDC-316 machine operated through punched cards. In 1992, the centre was shifted to its present location. At present it is situated on two floors of the block III of the main college building. There has been a recent expansion of the Central Computer Centre with a UGC grant in the form of an Annexe on the third floor.

RESOURCES / FACILITIES

There is a DEC Alpha server and a Workstation with 20 nodes and a number of stand alone Pentium PCs. These machines are primarily meant for R&D activities. There is a network consisting of an IBM Netfinity server, with IBM switches and hubs to which 40 number of PCs are connected as nodes. These would be used for providing computer training and hands-on practice to the students and also for running short term courses. Facilities for R&D activities are available for faculty members and research scholars. These machines have connectivity with internet and have access to e-mail. Several special purpose software viz. "Stress Analysis by FEM" etc. have been acquired.

RESEARCH / SPONSORED RESEARCH

Sponsored projects from ISRO and NASA (USA) have been completed using these facilities.

SHORT TERM COURSES / SEMINARS (covering the last three years)

There is a future planning for offering advance level courses after acquiring adequate software facilities.
